Florida’s elder population is rapidly increasing and placing greater demands on the
network of social service agencies. Following a disaster, the burden placed on the aging services network becomes larger as older adults, who
ordinarily are self-sufficient, turn to local agencies for assistance and guidance.
Current Disaster Plan
The function of state, regional, and local agencies in disaster preparedness, response, recovery and mitigation procedures
is to address and meet the needs of elder citizens through the coordination of mutual assistance.
