A Community Partnership: Helping Seniors Impacted by Recent Fire at Jacksonville Townhouse Apartments

ElderSource, along with other senior related agencies, had an opportunity to come together to help seniors impacted by the fire of the Jacksonville Townhouse Apartments. Through our Senior to Senior fund ( provided by an endowment from J.Wayne and Delores Barr Weaver through the Community Foundation of NE FL and supplemented by the Jim Moran Fun), we were able to provide 78 seniors and adults with disabilities with $200 Wal-Mart gift cards each.

The Seniors also received assistance from other agencies:

  • Aging True- provided meals
  • City of Jacksonville Senior Services – provided transportation to Wal-Mart for impacted seniors
  • Independent Living Resource Center –  provided durable medical equipment lost in the fire ( walkers, bed pans etc.)
  • Salvation Army – provided meals
  • Red Cross- provided coordination of services to find temporary shelter
  • Housing Manager- provided meals
  • Jacksonville Fire Department Fire Marshall – general support
  • Public Health- Dr. Kelly Wells-  general support
  • Paramedics/EMT – general support

We are so glad to be a part of this partnership to help the seniors impacted by the fire. We send a special thank you to the other partnering agencies.
