A Furnished Home

Ms. Della moved to Jacksonville from Atlanta, GA after her senior living facility became infested with bed bugs and other insects. Because of this she had to throw away all of her furniture when she moved.

Although Ms. Della found an apartment in Jacksonville, the rent was half of her Social Security income which was her only monthly income. The only furniture she had was a reclining chair. She used plastic crates to hold her clothing and to create end tables for her apartment.

Ms. Della was sleeping on an air mattress until it broke leaving her with only the reclining chair to sleep in. Sleeping in the recliner began to adversely affect Ms. Della’s health and she reached out to ElderSource for help. The ElderSource Senior to Senior Program helped  Ms. Della purchase a sofa, end tables, a bed and dresser for her apartment. Now her newly furnished apartment is comfortable and complete.

“When I open my eyes I see a miracle in my apartment,” she said. Ms. Della was overwhelmed with joy from her experience and was grateful for the kindness of ElderSource. “I’m grateful for an organization like ElderSource that’s in the community and able to help older adults when they have hard times.”

The Senior to Senior program was established in 2009 by J.Wayne and Delores Barr Weaver to help seniors in an unexpected financial crisis.  For more information on this program you can call our Helpline M-F 8am to 5pm  1-888-242-4464.
