Registration now open for FREE Senior Scam Workshop in Jacksonville, FL! March 29th and March 30th
FREE Operations S.A.F.E ( Stop Adult Financial Exploration) Workshop open to seniors, their families and caregivers. The program was launched in 2012 to educate seniors about financial topics such as annuities, identity theft, reverse mortgages and long-term care insurance.
Seniors are inundated with investment offers and requests for charitable donations and, because of it, are exposed to targeted financial scams. The workshop will focus on fraud and scams, such as fake lotteries and repair scams, and how scams prey on the psyche to convince seniors to take a chance on something that is too good to be true. The event will teach attendees how to spot fraudulent behavior, how to fight identity theft and what to do if they fall victim to fraud.

LGBT Cultural Competency Training – Hosted by ElderSource Institute
March 30, 2017
12:00 pm -1:30 pm
10688 Old St. Augustine Rd. Jacksonville, FL 32257
Our nation has a growing population of aging adults with increasing needs. As any other older adult, LGBT seniors face the typical challenges of aging. However, because of their sexual orientation and/or gender identity they are at a higher risk for abuse, discrimination, isolation and exploitation. LGBT elders are five times less likely to access services than non-LGBT seniors. This training is targeted towards community members and professionals who work with older adults and want to be knowledgeable and aware of the needs and concerns of LGBT elders.

ElderSource Institute will be hosting a very important Community Conversation Event. “The LGBT Lens: Challenges and Issues in LGBT care giving.” Our keynote speaker, Christopher MacLellan, has been an ardent advocate for caregivers since finding himself in the care giving role for his partner who lost his battle with cancer. Chris will present on his experience as a LGBT caregiver and will also share a wonderful, Pulitzer Prize nominated documentary, “In Sickness and In Health: A Couple’s Final Journey.” The film features him and his partner during the last year of his partners’ life.
In addition, we are bringing together a highly experienced panel to further the discussion on care giving, focusing on personal experiences, finding support and resources as well as legal considerations. We look forward to having you join us!
